I’ve had some requests to do an alternate finish to mirror polishing, so I came up with a new series of knives incorporating an acid stonewashed surface.
I first etch off about .002 inch from the blades with acid. This leaves the blade with a matt black finish. The blades are then subjected to a tumbled abrasive aggregate in a special machine I made to make this process possible. The tumbling removes some of the matt black and adds an interesting pattern to the blade.
I have four blades done so far and have chosen different woods for each knife. Here’s a few photos of the process so far.
