I’ve been spending more time in the shop these past few weeks working on a couple of palm skinners. The blades have been bevelled, all the filework’s done, the handle slabs have been cut out and the pins fitted.

Today I did the 10-hour heat treat and the blades came out perfect – Rockwell 60-61 which is tops for my ATS – 34.

Next week I can glue up the handles, shape them and maybe get the sheaths started. I’m making one with Arizona Ironwood and the other with Burled Elm.

These are great little skinning knives that can fit in your backpack or jacket pocket for when you need one.
